Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
- 6-8 cups sliced and peeled apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk or cream for icing
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon butter (for greasing the pan)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a large sheet pan with butter.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour. Toss until well mixed.
- Roll out one pie crust and lay it in the prepared sheet pan, allowing some to hang over the edges.
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture, spreading it evenly.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the top, sealing the edges by crimping them together. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pie is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
- While the pie is baking, prepare the icing by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Let the pie cool, then drizzle the icing over the top.
- Slice into squares and serve.
Notes
Choose apples with a balance of acidity and sweetness. Brush the top crust with cream or milk for an even finish.
