- 4 large egg whites, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Fresh berries for topping (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)
- Whipped cream (for serving)
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or a pinch of lemon zest
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add granulated sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
- Add cream of tartar and mix briefly. Fold in vanilla or lemon zest if using.
- Transfer meringue to a piping bag and pipe wreath shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours or until dry and easily lifted from the paper.
- Allow to cool completely before serving with whipped cream and fresh berries.
Notes
Store cooled meringues in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Assemble just before serving to maintain crispness.
