Ingredients

  • 4 large egg whites, room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • Fresh berries for topping (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries)
  • Whipped cream (for serving)
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract or a pinch of lemon zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the egg whites until soft peaks form.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form and the mixture is glossy.
  4. Add cream of tartar and mix briefly. Fold in vanilla or lemon zest if using.
  5. Transfer meringue to a piping bag and pipe wreath shapes onto the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours or until dry and easily lifted from the paper.
  7. Allow to cool completely before serving with whipped cream and fresh berries.

Notes

Store cooled meringues in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Assemble just before serving to maintain crispness.
