Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices into a bowl; set aside.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a separate bowl until pale and fluffy.
- Add egg, orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla to the butter mixture, mixing until smooth.
- Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
- Scoop heaping teaspoons of dough onto the baking sheets, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Flatten the dough slightly with the back of a spoon.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are golden and centers are set but not hard.
- Let cool for 5 minutes on the tray before transferring to a cooling rack.
- Whisk powdered sugar with 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice until smooth. Drizzle or brush the glaze over the cookies and garnish with orange zest. Let glaze set before serving.
Notes
Measure flour correctly to avoid dense cookies. For the best flavor, avoid using bottled orange juice for the glaze.
