Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb strawberries, grapes, or other fruit of your choice (about 30 pieces)
- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Wash the Fruit: Thoroughly wash the selected fruit and pat it dry with a towel.
- Prepare the Fruit: Remove any leaves, stems, or inedible parts from the fruit.
- Skewer the Fruit: Place 1 to 3 pieces of fruit on each skewer.
- Make the Candy Syrup: In a small pot over low to medium heat, combine sugar and water and bring to a gentle boil.
- Monitor the Syrup: Watch for the mixture to thicken and become an amber color after 10-20 minutes.
- Test the Syrup: Drizzle the syrup into an ice water bath; it should harden and crack when bent.
- Dip the Skewers: Quickly dip each skewer into the syrup, covering the fruit, then plunge it into the ice water to cool.
- Repeat: Place cooled skewers on a plate and repeat for the remaining fruit.
- Serve: Enjoy the Tanghulu immediately for the best texture.
Notes
Ensure fruits are dry before dipping to avoid slipping syrup. Reheat syrup if it hardens too quickly.
