Irresistibly cheesy and chewy pretzel bites filled with gooey mozzarella, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 12 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into cubes
  • Coarse salt, for sprinkling
  • Dipping sauces of choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Divide the dough into small pieces and wrap each piece around a cube of mozzarella cheese.
  5. In a large pot, bring water and baking soda to a boil. Gently drop the bites into the boiling water for about 30 seconds.
  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour. For a vegan option, use plant-based cheese alternatives.
