A quintessential summer appetizer featuring juicy tomatoes and aromatic basil on toasted bread.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of crusty bread
  • 4-5 ripe tomatoes, diced
  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the crusty bread into thick slices and place them on a baking tray.
  3. Brush one side of each slice with olive oil and toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. In a large bowl, combine diced tomatoes, chopped basil, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, and remaining olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Once the bread is toasted, remove from the oven and spoon the tomato basil mixture onto each slice. Serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately for the best taste; this bruschetta can also be easily adapted for vegan or gluten-free diets.
