- 9 lasagna noodles
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 pound Italian sausage
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
- 12 ounces tomato sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 15 ounces ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions and set aside.
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese with egg until well combined.
- Spread a layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a baking dish, place 3 noodles on top, then spread with 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the mozzarella, and another layer of meat sauce. Repeat layers two more times, finishing with meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes until cheese is golden.
- Let sit for 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Brown meats without overcrowding and let the lasagna rest before slicing for neat portions.
