Buttery Christmas crack saltine toffee with crisp crackers, golden caramel, and a thick chocolate layer with festive sprinkles. An easy 4-ingredient holiday candy.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 24 pieces 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup festive red, green, and white sprinkles
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt, for finishing
  • 1/2 cup chopped toasted pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a 15×10 inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, letting it overhang the edges.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a single snug layer covering the bottom of the pan, breaking a few to fill gaps.
  3. Combine the butter, brown sugar, and fine sea salt in a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves.
  4. Bring to a full rolling boil and boil for exactly 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until deep golden.
  5. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour the hot toffee evenly over the crackers and spread quickly to the edges with an offset spatula.
  7. Bake for 5 to 6 minutes until the toffee is bubbling vigorously all over.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee, let sit 2 to 3 minutes, then spread into a smooth layer.
  9. While the chocolate is still wet, add the sprinkles, flaky sea salt, and pecans if using.
  10. Refrigerate 1 to 2 hours until completely firm, then lift out and break into pieces.
