- 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp dark brown sugar
- 2 cups gluten-free all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda (for boiling)
- Coarse salt (for topping)
- Melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and dark brown sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Add gluten-free flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for a few minutes until smooth.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape each into pretzels.
- Boil water in a large pot and add baking soda.
- Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet.
- Sprinkle with coarse salt and brush with melted butter.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
To achieve a shiny crust, make sure to follow the baking soda bath step. Store cooled pretzels in an airtight container for up to two days.
