Homemade Candy Canes offer a crisp texture with a cool peppermint finish, perfect for festive occasions.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 candy canes 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and allow it to boil to the soft ball stage (about 240°F).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in peppermint extract and food coloring if using.
  4. Allow to cool slightly until it’s manageable, then knead the mixture on a greased surface until it becomes smooth and pliable.
  5. Shape into candy canes, twisting the ends to create the traditional shape.
  6. Place on wax paper to cool completely.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar to prevent sticking.

Notes

Avoid stirring the mixture once it reaches a boil to prevent crystallization. Cool thoroughly before storing.
